SmearChampagne 110123
Smear Champagne is the ambient improvisational duo of
Karl H May &
DJsqgl.
Performed live at Wangi Wangi NSW Australia 23rd January 2010 totally improvised.
Karl played electic guitar with his FX pedals while sqgl used Ableton Live 8.04 FX.
No synthesisers or sampling for this one.
Half hour live recording of
DJ sqgl's
experimental performance in the front gallery of the Hunter TAFE (Newcastle, Australia) opening of the innaugral
Art Sounds Festival, 2009.
The following tracks were used:
TERESA BRIGHT - Tihore Mai te Rangi
THE WAIFS - Lighthouse
COWBOY JUNKIES - Mining for Gold
DEVO - Working in the Coal Mine
Apart from DEVO, the other three tracks were covered by the acapella women's choir Tamarillo that followed on in the evening's programme.
One hour ambient mix from
DJ sqgl
designed to facilitate dozing...
lucid dreaming
perhaps but not sleeping!
Idea inspired by Albert Catalano, mix was made as a birthday present for Peter Bosma.
The source material is unsigned artists from mp3.com circa 1999.
Descends slowly to the point of near silence.
Occasional surprises ensure you don't fully sleep
(dreams are only remembered if are roused from them).
Eventually percussion and beats gently return you to the waking state.
Smear Champagne is the ambient improvisational duo of
Karl H May &
DJsqgl.
Performed live on Radio RePlayScape
20th June 2009 using songs requested in realtime by users in SoulSeek.
User pyninja in the Ambient chatroom requested Deaf Center,
user higgeldy piggeldy in the chat room MovieMusic requested Wagner.
It was this day, this track that inspired Karl H May & DJsqgl to call themselves Smear Champagne (after 6 months of deliberation).
Karl plays guitar through FX here while Squiggle is smearing a golden oldie that only becomes recognisable at the very end.
Another ambient improvisational duo, this time Keith of The Seeds of Autumn & DJsqgl.
Recorded at Keith's place in Heathcote next to Royal National Park 9th June 2008.
Titled Down The Garden Path it is sees
Sqgl messing about with Birds samples and
Keith playing keyboard and eventually editing and mastering.
This was our second ever jam.
