Iraq Weapons Inspector Opposes War SCOTT RITTER on Late Night Live with Phillip Adams, broadcast on Radio National Australia Monday 28 November 2005 Summary Between 1991 and 1998, Scott Ritter was one of the most controversial employees of the United Nations. As a UN weapons inspector in Iraq, the former US marine upset UN diplomats and Iraqi officials by kicking down doors and shouting at Iraqi bureaucrats in the search for Saddam’s WMD. In 1998, Ritter resigned from the UN Special Commission to Disarm Iraq (UNSCOM). Since then, he has been arguing that the UN inspections were continually thwarted by the CIA and undermined by successive US administrations, who he says, never really intended to lift sanctions against Iraq. During 2002, he became a vocal opponent of the Iraq War, arguing Iraq had no substantial WMD. He even made a personal trip to Iraq to try and revive the weapon’s inspections program and avert the war.
