Surely your MP and mine should jump up and down about this irresponsible, unpublished assault?
Do we need to find a smoking gun before we pre-empt this?

Subject: Depleated uranium for Australia.

Greetings,

Depleted Uranium bombs strike150 k from perth. (friendly fire while you read this email)
Now that there is abundant evidence of the damage depleted uranium is capable of inflicting on humans instead of banning its use in Australia, and for that matter around the world, the WA government is preparing to allow the US into Australia to test these and other weapons. The following information has just come to hand. If you are sleeping, then, sorry no appolegy for trying to wake you. Regards Joe Bryant.

Former US Army Major says use of Depleted Uranium Munitions at Lancelin Likely

VISITING former US Army Major Doug Rokke said today that it was highly likely that the US had used depleted uranium munitions at the Lancelin Defence Training Area, north of Perth.

Dr Rokke, the former director of the Pentagon’s Depleted Uranium project said while he had no proof of the use of the DU munitions at the training facility it was “100 per cent likely” that the US had used the facility to test DU munitions.

His comments come ahead of his planned tour of the Lancelin Training facility on Sunday and follow an announcement today that the US military would be using the training facility from July 6-8 for bombing practice. The practice is part of a visit by the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson and her battle group next week.

Dr Rokke will speak on the issue of depleted uranium at a public meeting at the Lancelin Angling and Aquatic Club on Sunday (July 6).

The Department of Defence announced today that the US would carry out its bombardment of Lancelin July 6-8 and 15-16 and stated that “No depleted uranium would be used during the training.”

Dr Rokke said it was laughable that the Australian Government and the Australian people allowed a foreign power to contaminate the West Australian coastline through bombardment and weapons testings.

“The US military is in total environmental violation of environmental law in the US and they don’t have to comply with any of your laws,” Dr Rokke said.

“They said they weren’t using DU weapons in the US and then Congressman Jim McDermott in Seattle Washington found out they were. What you have got to understand is that the US doesn’t care. Australia is so low on the totem pole that you people just don’t matter.”

Dr Rokke will arrive in Perth on Friday to deliver a series of public lectures on depleted uranium. The tour is being hosted by peace, anti-nuclear, medical and church groups nationwide.Dr Rokke is a former US Army physicist sent to the Gulf in 1991 by the Pentagon to head a team of US military personnel to “clean-up” American tanks hit by friendly fire DU weapons. He said Australia as a part of the “coalition of the willing” had an obligation to help decontaminate Iraq in the aftermath of the latest war. The clean-up was likely to cost many billions of US dollars.
